Turkey/Iraq Border
August 1st, 1940
General Oberst Ludwig Kubler stood with his Division commanders and went of the plan one last time. "We lead with the 18th Panzer Division. The 46th and 267th will follow behind them, using their newly arrived trucks. The 1st Gebirgsjager Division is to secure Mosul, while the 4th Gebirgsjager Division is to secure Tikrit. Also the 1st and 2nd Fallchimjager Divisions are dropping into Baghdad as soon as the Iraqis give the okay. Any questions?"
"What do we do if we encounter resistance to our movements sir?" General der Panzertruppen Walther Nehring, commander of the 18th Panzer Division asked.
"You shouldn't but clear the way if you have to, Walther. We have about six days to get into position, so push fast."
"Aye General."
"Anything else?"
"Air cover?" General Lieutenant Paul von Hase, Commander of the 46th Infantry Division asked.
"Planes from Luftwaffe Two will be in the air covering us so that shouldn't be a problem as they now have forward airfields around Sihnak and Van and once we secure Mosul and Tirkit they will deploy forward." Ludwig replied.
"Aye sir, sounds good."
"Anything else Gentlemen? Good. Alright kick off is in one hour. Lets get moving."
An hour later the first tanks and half tracks of the 18th Panzer Division began rolling into Iraq, as planes from the Luftwaffe flew top cover.
