Isoroku Yamamoto sat in the old car rumbling through the streets of Moscow until he came upon the gates of the Kremlin. His secretary, Ms. Honshoiki, leaned over and quietly whispered in the Prime minister's ear
"Sir are you sure we can trust them?" "Any man that can blow off fingers can have a drink with me any day, plus their much more controlled now, i think they've got something going here in Russia" Yamamoto remarked with a jolly smile. It had been near 35 years since he had lost his at the Battle of Tsushima on the cruiser Nisshin. He remembered how he did and chuckled.
"Stupid Ensign..."
The car rolled to a stop on the steps of the Kremlin, he took a deep breath of the air in the car, closed his eyes and went for the door handle.

Moscow, USSR The Kremlin July 10th 9:15 AM
Sergei stood as the heavy oak doors to the private meeting room opened, and Yamamoto was led in. Sergei walked over and politely bowed to the man as much as his back would allow before offering a handshake.
"I apologize, Comrade, but a sniper's bullet caught me in the back last month, and it has caused my back much pain." Sergei explained, motioning to the chairs, "Please, sit, my friend."
He pulled around a box, and opened it, showing the contents to Yamamoto.
"A gift, first of all, Comrade." Sergei said. Inside the padded box was a bottle of Stolichnaya, a priemer brand of vodka. "It is one of the things that the Western invaders could not deprive of my nation. Say what you will about it, but I find it helps when you need to do some abstract thinking." He motioned to the label, which was written in Cyrlic anyhow, "Blue label. 100 proof. My personal favorite since taking office."
Inside the box, there are also two finely crafted glasses. Sergei set the box aside on the table.
"But, I doubt you came over here to talk about vodka, didnt you?" Sergei said, "I would like to attempt to renew relations with your country, and hopefully, we can avoid the disasters that our two countries continue to encounter with one another."

Yamamoto's hand glided against the bottle and the box.
"I thank you graciously for this gift, General Secretary, It has been many a day since i had a glass of Stolichnaya. Since my college days" he slightly chuckled. "I come here as both a former fighter against her mother Russia. I come here to assure you, there is no ill will between my Military in my visit here. As you may have known, I and the rest of the Imperial Japanese Navy removed former Prime Minister Tojo from office. His plans, from what i can tell you General Secretary, were for an all out assault on Vladivostok. I am glad we finished his dictatorship ruling years under Emperor Showa, the emperor strayed from his deft ways of his early rulings, so i believe you won't have to deal with him."
He pulled the box toward him and pulled the two glasses out and inspected the Russian craftsmanship. "Amazing work. I couldn't have asked for such amazing work, i am truly in awe of what your glass blowers are capable of". He spoke softly, and his words seemed as if silk against a coarse wall for the cold made him a bit jittery
"I come to ask for many things, but lets get to he most pressing of all of them. Our countries have had their skirmishes, I believe the most recent being at Lake Khasan. I, from here on out, at this table, will promise you that there will be no aggression toward our Soviet friends. If you wish us to be such". His left hand found its way onto the table showing his war wounds as he tapped the glass with his left thumb looking directly at the General Secretary.

Sergei smiled and nodded.
"I was hoping that we could cease our agressive problems. Iosif Stalin feared an attack from your country, which is why so many units remain poised on that end of the country. But since we have established now that we have a mutal understanding, which can work into an agreement, I will gladly start moving my forces out of the Far Eastern District." Sergei explained.
"Your previous leader did many things that one would not hold as good judgement, such as supporting the Mexicans movement against the United States, especially when the American President allowed the Germans to reinforce the border there. The fact that he was planning to invade Vladivostok hardly surprises me." Sergei said, "But at this point, I feel that knowing that we can become friends with the Japanese will be a very relieving sight to not only our own nations, but to the world."
He looked at the war wound that Yamamaoto showed, "I'm sorry, but I was not on that front. I've spent my entire military career as an Army officer in the Ukraine. But I know the pains of war, and I know that if two enemies can stop and realize they have no need to fight, then we can move on to other things. I'm sure there are more interesting things to do in your part of the world then square off against my troops repeatedly over little reason."

"You need not move your troops. Don't fear for our military, fear for if the Huns decide to infiltrate you" he laughed hard "of course i wouldn't worry about that"
He straighted up and started with business "As much as i hate business and I'd much rather be on my battleship sailing the 7 seas playing mah jong and poker with the Captains of my fleet ship to ship with signals, i have to be the leader of my country". scratched his dry neck, nodding his head.
"I will be frank, My countries tanks are below average in every facet of what we want them to be, and unlike the hundreds of thousands German model MP18s we have in our army, my army commanders have been screaming at my manufacturers for a better model of weaponry. They suggested your country is the way to go. I have heard of your PPD-40 from some of my troops. They fear it. Feel good about that" He chuckled. "I have also heard of your T-34 tanks, being fearsome adversaries of anything out in our world now" he leaned in close "Being interested, also means that i must ask. If i were to request all of these, and the possibility of reverse engineering initial models given to the Japanese people, what would Mother Russia want from the island off of her eastern coasts."

Sergei pondered that question long and hard.
"Unfortunatly, I cannot provide you with the T-34 yet, as it only just came into production, and my officers would have a major problem. However, I can offer you the T-28 tank we are replacing it with. I assure you it is a decent enough tank, it is just a bit old. Once the T-34 has been more widely introduced into my military, then I can consider exporting it to your nation." Sergei explained, "As for the gun, I have no problem licenceing that out to you, as that's been in our Army for years."
"As for what Japan could do in reply, that I do not know. We are just trying to rebuild after the Winter War still. Though, with our differences resolved and a friendship made, I feel more comfortable with having some time to at least rebuild my smashed Pacific Fleet." He grunted, "That being the work of the Americans." He laughed a little, "Would you believe that the Norwegians, with such a tiny navy, destroyed the Northern Fleet? The Americans helped of course, but they led the attack...must be their Viking heritage..." He cleared his throat, "I am sorry, I am babbling."
Sergei straightened his jacket, "There is not much I can ask of your people in reply, except for this friendship to flourish and for our past misgivings to be left in the past. I will gladly turn over the T-28s as a stopgap measure until we can present you with the T-34. I commanded a Regiment of T-28s before. They are most certianly not bad tanks. They should help for now. But, my Army would have problems with a sudden export of the T-34. However, I assure that once they are intigrated more into the Soviet Army, the Japanese Army will recieve the T-34 as well."

Yamamoto nodded understandingly
"We all forget the pillaging and raping of Paris during the Middle ages there General Secretary. Their navy is strong, they were the first to Greenland in 982. Well, there's the sleeping beast in their navy" He nodded again slowly while pulling the Vodka from its holder. " For i have heard much about the Battle of Kollaa. Terrible battle. River battling has never gone over well but, We strive on".
Isoroku took the cap off of the vodka and poured it into both glasses while speaking.
"I can promise you 30 Shiratsuyu Class Destroyers by the beginning of August, for the rebuilding of your navy" He chuckled "She is quite the neighborhood damsel. with 5 5 inch guns, plenty of AA, and Torpedos. She shall do well against anything for now"
He stopped pouring the last glass and looked up at the General Secretary, he offered him the glass of Vodka
"This is of course, if you will it"

Sergei accepted the glass, and nodded.
"Of course. These will be greatly appreciated, and I hope that we can build this into a very fruitful engagement for both of our sides." He said with a smile, and raised the glass in a toast.
"To the beginings of a brighter future for the Japanese and Soviet people. May our pasts be left in the past, and our futures remain bright." He said, "Nasadrovnya!" He said and tossed back the vodka with Yamamoto, pleased with the results of this meeting, and having met this man.
